Community Spotlight – Emma Kuldemir (Esports Media House)

With almost 10 years of business experience across a wide range of disciplines, Emma is the Director of Operations at Esports Media House and one half of the leadership team, alongside James Cowan.

What got you into gaming?

Like any other 90’s kid – I grew up on gaming consoles like N64. I have many childhood memories from visiting friends after school to play games. Fast forward, through many life events, gaming is what has kept my inner-child alive.

What is your favourite game?

Banjo-Kazooie – for a period there, it was the one game I remember playing over and over without ever getting tired of it.

Could you please tell us more about The Games Journal and how that started?

The Games Journal (TGJ) is a platform created to celebrate individuals in esports and the wider gaming community. The content was raw and unfiltered storytelling, weaved together with black and white photography, littered with nuggets of wisdom for those aspiring to be in the industry. This was my first passion-project launched at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the hope of bringing some positivity to the community. Plans are in motion for series 2, which is yet to be announced.

What does your day-to-day look like at Esports Media House?

Being a Director, no day-to-day is the same.  Some days I may be creating a product with James for clients or I may be on-site to set-up an activation. Other days, you may see me in a TV studio for a live broadcast or I may be in the trenches driving a grassroots gaming initiative. My role within our company is very diverse and as the company continues to grow, so will the tasks of my day-to-day.

What’s been one of your biggest or most exciting achievements at work?

With the focus of showcasing the power of esports and gaming to non-endemic brands, the Supercars Eseries has been an exciting achievement and the perfect example of what that can look like.

Who in the video game industry inspires you?

I wouldn’t say I’m inspired by anyone in particular, but more so as a collective.  We’re all individuals sharing the same passion, wanting to drive the industry as a whole and sharing wisdom to each other along the way.
