The Australian gaming community unites to fund cancer research

More than $86,000 was raised for Game On Cancer® at PAX Australia 2022

The Australian gaming community has waited more than 1000 days to return to the region’s largest gaming festival and earlier this month their patience was rewarded with PAX Aus 2022 returning to Melbourne for the 8th time since 2013.

Tens of thousands of gamers from across the country (and beyond) assembled at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre for 3-days of video games, cosplay, tabletop gaming, fun-filled panels AND the opportunity to support cancer research!

That’s right – thanks to a charity partnership with PAX Aus, Game On Cancer® was on the show floor in full force, uniting the gaming community to support the work of incredibly talented early career cancer researchers all across Australia.

The fundraising began before the event even kicked off! PAX attendees could donate at checkout when purchasing their badges online, and once they got to the show, there was no shortage of ways to get involved.

The amazing GenerOZity community took over the Wombat Theatre and, across 3-days of streaming panels, variety gaming and unforgettable sea-shanties, raised more than $40,000! On top of this, their team was also selling the adorable ‘Drop Bread’ Pinny Arcade pins with all proceeds going to Game On Cancer® too. In total, GenerOZity raised more than $51,000 bringing their lifetime total of funds raised for Game On Cancer® to well over $200,000 – just incredible!

Just outside the Wombat Theatre was the amazing AusSpeedruns community. Just like last year, Australia’s best speedrunners took part in the 3-day program, showing off their tremendous skills and fundraising for cancer research at the same time. Once again, the team at HyperX were there to support the fun-filled event, donating their awesome products as prizes and helping raise a massive $8,348. An incredible $40,112 has been raised by the AusSpeedruns community over the last 12 months!

Roaming the show floor of PAX all weekend long was the Cookie Brigade team, offering delicious snacks for hungry tummies to raise money for charities. Game On Cancer is grateful to have been chosen as one of the charity partners this year, with a huge $10,269 raised for cancer research!

Thank you to all those who came to say hi to us at the Game On Cancer booth, and to all those who donated! We had so much fun FINALLY being able to meet everyone from our lovely community, as well as running some games to give away some spectacular prizes. Thanks to our partners at RØDE, HyperX, Wargaming Sydney, Ubisoft ANZ and Good Games for all of the fantastic products they donated! We couldn’t have done it without you all, so thank you so much for your support for providing our prize winners with some amazing gear ❤ Over the 3 days at PAX, more than $11,000 was raised at the booth alone! Wow!

More than $86,000 raised is a huge effort! Thank you to everyone involved and we look forward to seeing you all again next year ❤
